Begin this route in Tupper Lake, home of The Wild Center and great dining options, as well as Woodsmen’s Days and various community events. Travel south along NYS Route 30, around the shores of Tupper Lake and through miles of scenic wilderness and smooth roadways. Stop at Long Lake Diner and Owls Had Pub for a meal, or book a night at the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake. From Long Lake, head west on Route 28N toward Newcomb, home of the Adirondack Interpretive Center to enjoy hiking trails, naturalist talks and special programming. The Newcomb House Bar & Grill, as well as WD’s Country Store provide shopping and dining.
Continue on Blue Ridge Road for a long stretch of unimpeded wilderness views to North Hudson. Here, hop on Interstate 87 South for a few miles toward Schroon Lake, home of Paradox Brewery and many dining options along the village’s charming Main Street. Continue on Route 74 toward Ticonderoga.
Here, park and walk around Fort Ticonderoga or continue north toward Crown Point on Route 9N. Visit the Crown Point State Historic Site and continue riding around the shore of Lake Champlain, the sixth largest lake in the United States.
In Westport, head west on Route 9N toward Elizabethtown. Fuel up or grab a bite to eat and continue onto Route 73 toward Keene and Lake Placid. Both towns offer rich cultural attractions and outdoor recreation. In Lake Placid, stroll down Main Street, dine, enjoy a night on the town and visit the area’s Winter Olympic sites. Continue on Route 86 toward Saranac Lake, offering shops, restaurants and attractions, and complete the trip by heading back to Tupper Lake on Route 3.
