This route begins in Cape Vincent on the shores of Lake Ontario, a vibrant area with a rich French heritage. Plan on spending a day or two riding around the town's historic sites, including the Tibbets Point Lighthouse, Three Mile Bay and the Cape Vincent Fisheries Station and Aquarium. Ride out of town on Route 12E and continue for several miles around Chaumont Bay to the town of Chaumont. Fuel and rest up, then continue on 12E to Limerick and head south on 110 to Dexter. Located on the Black River, Dexter is the place for whitewater rafting on the Black River.
Dry off and head south on Route 180 and turn onto Route 3 to Bedford Creek, and continue riding to Westcott Beach State Park, and Sackets Harbor on the Black River Bay. Stop for a time to tour this historic area, offering local coffee shops, B&BS, shops and an array of recreational activities.
Continue south on Route 3, wrapping around the shore of Henderson Bay and passing through Westcott Beach State Park and heading east on 178 into the town of Henderson. Stop at the Henderson General Store for unique gifts, and continue south on 178. Take a scenic detour on Nohle Road to 289, then back to 178 to continue east toward Adams. Stop and enjoy the area and continue on Route 69 north to Rodman. Turn east onto Route 177 and ride through several state forest areas, including Granger, Lookout and Gould Corners. Route 177 becomes Route 194 to Copenhagen. Turn on to Route 55, then Route 45 toward Carthage. Stop to explore this unique town on the Black River.
From Carthage, head north along the Black River on Route 3 to Route 312. Turn onto Route 11 to Evans Mills, then Route 16 to Route 12. At the intersection of Route 12 and Route 180, head north and begin to close the loop. Pass through Clayton, a great place to stop and explore, and continue riding along the St. Lawrence River on 12E back to Cape Vincent to close the loop.
